    Description: DRAMINSKI Pregnancy Detector

    Indispensable on every breeding farm

Ultrasound Pregnancy Tester is an invaluable help in modern breeding. The detector provides maximum help for breeders, advisers and veterinarians in making an accurate diagnosis that confirms or excludes farrowing period (pregnancy).

    Benefits

    • Diagnosis effectiveness close to 100%,
    • Early diagnosis of pregnancy helps to separate pregnant females from sterile ones,
    • Fast organization of animal groups reduces irreparable financial losses
    • The highest efficiency of an early diagnosis helps to make the right decisions when organising breeding.

    Principle of operation

The detector determines pregnancy by locating amniotic fluid in the uterus. It uses the phenomenon of ultrasonic wave reflection. When pressed to the animal’s skin, the probe sends an ultrasound beam which is reflected from uterine horn filled with fluid and returns to the probe, causing a change of signal generated by the device. An optimum day of examination depends on the animal species and is calculated from the date of mating or insemination. It is necessary to repeat the test at an optimum date, if a very early pregnancy was checked.

FAQ's: Draminski pregnancy detector. Available for sows, sheep and goats

For which animal species is the Draminski pregnancy detector intended?

The device has versions specifically adapted for sows, sheep and goats.

How does the Draminski pregnancy detector work?

It works by using ultrasound. Applied to the female's body, the probe of the device sends ultrasounds that bounce off the fluid-filled uterine horn and return to the probe causing the signal change generated by the device.

Pregnancy detection is announced by the intense pulsing sound and the flashing of the green diode.

How does the pregnancy detector determine if the female is pregnant?

The Draminski pregnancy detector detects through ultrasound the presence of amniotic fluid in the uterus of the animal if the female is pregnant.

When can the Draminski pregnancy detector be used?

It will depend on the species of animal that you want to examine. In general terms, for sows, the optimum time for detection is between 25 and 35 days after mating or insemination. In the case of sheep and goats, the indicated timing would be between 60 and 90 days after mating or insemination.

Where and how should the Draminski pregnancy detector probe be applied?

To facilitate contact between the probe and the animal's skin, the head should be lubricated with a lubricating liquid (Vaseline, liquid paraffin, technical oil or even cooking oil). It is also important to carefully lubricate the animal's skin where the pregnancy detector head will be applied.

The probe must be held securely without exerting excessive force on the animal's skin. The probe should be applied at an angle of about 40-45º from the abdominal area and in the direction of the animal's head. At this time, the probe must be moved slowly in different directions so that the ultrasound can penetrate the abdominal cavity and thus be able to detect the amniotic fluid within the uterine horn.

It is very important to follow these indications, since if the probe is oriented perpendicularly or in another direction, incorrect results (false pregnancy) may be shown when detecting urine from the urinary bladder and not uterine amniotic fluid.

How does the pregnancy detector indicate that the sow is pregnant?

The detection of pregnancy is indicated by the change in frequency in the lighting of the green diode of the device, also accompanied by the increase in the sound signal emitted.

The green signaling diode is strictly related to the sound signaling. When turning on the equipment power, the diode will light up. Upon obtaining good contact of the ultrasound head with the animal's body, the diode will begin to blink with the same frequency as the sound signal (approximately one pulse per second).

At the moment of detecting the pregnancy, the blinking of the diode and the frequency of the signal emitted from the sound generator will increase significantly, generating up to 4-5 impulses per second.

Can the Draminski pregnancy detector harm the fetus?

The equipment is completely safe for the health of animals, both for females and for fetuses. The device has been built in such a way that its use is easy and the examination carried out is fast and efficient.

How should the animal be at the time of pregnancy detection?

The examination must be carried out with an animal that is standing, on both sides of its body starting from the right side. Test time is about twelve seconds, but with some practice it can be reduced to as little as a few seconds. If possible, try to keep the female calm and relaxed during the exam.

The best time to carry out the tests is in the morning, when the animals have not yet eaten and once they have woken up and already urinated. A full bladder and stomach (feeding the animal before the test) may cause false results (full bladder or stomach). Repeat the tests over the following three days to verify the diagnosis obtained.

Why is it important to have a pregnancy detector on the farm?

It is an easy-to-use tool that allows one to know the gestation state of the animal in a simple and economic way, without the need for other tests or having to wait for the veterinarian to be present. It is a robust piece of equipment, designed for work in farm conditions.

How to know if you have to change the battery of the pregnancy detector?

The device automatically indicates that the battery is depleted by continuously lighting up the red diode. When this happens, the examination must be interrupted to avoid erroneous results.

How to replace the Draminski pregnancy detector battery?

The process of changing the used battery is very simple and you just have to unscrew the cover located at the bottom of the device and remove the used battery, unfastening its connector.

Then simply insert a new battery and connect it correctly. Finally, the correct positioning of the gasket must be checked and the cover must be screwed back on.
